77 Ugandans Killed in Seven Days on Road Accidents; Traffic Report.

A total of 77 Ugandans have been killed in one week on road accidents. Micheal Kananura the spokesperson for traffic and road safety confirmed the number of killed people and attributed the accident to reckless driving on the roads. The traffic spokesperson also said that a total 447 accidents were recorded on one week beginning from 3rd to 9th July 2023 . He added that out of 447 accidents, 77 people died, 235 people got major injuries while 145 people got minor injuries. 

Traffic mouthpiece also revealed that out of 67 who died, 38 were using motorcycles as passengers and as riders. Mr Micheal Kananura also said that out of 235 that got severe injuries, 196 were using boda bodas. Kananura also said that out of 77 who died, 26 were pedestrians. Among those who died was a one Appolo Nyegamehe commonly known as Aponye whose vehicle got an accident on 06/07/2023 that occured at Itojo along Mbarara Kabale road.

Traffic spokesperson said that according to investigations, the driver of motor vehicle reg no UBF 300Z Toyota Land cruiser that killed Businessman Aponye was over speeding. SP Kananura also said that on 08/07/2023 another accident happened in Ayago Marchison Game Park on Karuma Pakwach Road which had only one vehicle UAW 943A which killed four people including Hon Angiro Charles who was a former member of parliament for Eruto North in Lira district.
