Police Cleans Up City, 200 Goons Netted
Police at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala has today made an abrupt operation in Kampala City and over 200 notorious criminals have been arrested.
According to police, the operation was conducted after several business men complained to IGP Martin Okoth Ochola, his Deputy Maj Gen Katsigazi and other top security chiefs over the increased theft, robberies, phone and bag snatching in the city.
"I have received several complaints from down town traders that there is increased theft and robberies in the city, what is security doing," a source quoted Gen Katsigazi grilling KMP Commander Stephen Tanui. The source adds that recently Gen Katsigazi visited down town and was briefed of increased insecurity in Kampala and surroundings. "I don't want to hear any insecurity in Kampala if you can not handle it I will do it my self," another senior Police officer heard Katsigazi grilling security chiefs during a security meeting.
Police officers say after they were seriously grilled, KMP boss ordered for serious operations in KMP. Today operations were conducted in areas of Owino, Mukwano arcade, Kikubo, Kiseka market among others.
"Patrick Onyango the Police spokesperson confirms the operation and said over 200 criminals were arrested. "We shall screen them and by Monday some will appear in courts of law," he said. He added that more operations will be conducted until the city is crime free.
