Annual Crime Report; Police Registers Decrease In Criminality
The Annual Crime Report has indicated that there was a 1.5% decrease in the number of cases reported to the Police.
According to the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola during the Launch of the report at police headquarters at Naguru, 231, 653 cases were reported to Police in 2022, compared to 228, 074 in 2023.
POLICE in conjunction with sister agencies like UPDF, Prisons, SFC, JIC (CMI, ISO, CI, and ESO), and JATT, combated various forms of crime like gun-related crimes, illegal firearms, and ammunition proliferation, terrorism, gang activities, marine crimes, housebreaking, burglaries, acid attacks, motor vehicle theft, cattle wrestling in Karamoja. He revealed.
The IGP Ochola has attributed the reduction in crime rate to the introduction of disciplinary courts which he says marks a significant milestone for the Uganda Police Force. These courts aim to enforce discipline within the force, ensuring that officers adhere to professional standards and human rights. IGP noted.
Director of Criminal Investigation Directorate Tom Magambo said that out of the total cases reported to Police countrywide, 84,907 cases were taken to Court, 48,632 cases were not proceeded with, while 94,535 cases are still under inquiry.
