12771 Girls Defiled In 2023- Police Annual Crime Report

The country was on Wednesday left in total shock when police Annual crime report revealed that over 12771 girls were defiled in the 2023, Spyreports has learnt. According to the report which was launched by the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola at police headquarters in Kampala, a total of 12771 cases of defilement were reported to various police stations across the Country compared to 12580 that were reported in 2022.

The report further reveal that there was an increase in defilement cases by 1.5%. The report further indicates that 8925 were defilement while 3846 were aggravated defilement meaning that girls below 10 years were involved. "5564 cased of defilement were taken to court,2402 were not proceeded with while 4805 cases are still under inquiry," Says the Report. It further says940 suspects were convicted and are now rotting in several prisons while 38 suspects were acquitted. "414 cases were dismissed while 4172 cases are still pending in courts of law," The reports reads in parts.

Police further arrested a total 5671 defilers and taken to court and 982 were convicted. The police report further shows that there was an increase in theft cases from 61508 in 2022 to  65901 in 2023. The report also indicates that road clashes also increased from 4534 in 2022 to 4806 in 2023.
The Inspector General of police while launching the annual crime report says there was a general decrease in crime by 1.5% in 2022. He adds that cases reported reduced from 231653 in 2022 to 228074 in 2023. "The force has focused on strengthening discipline and adherence to human rights by introducing disciplinary courts in all districts across the Country," he says adding courts aim at enforcing discipline with in the force. He says that a total of 933 cases of human rights violations by police were reported while 794 were thoroughly investigated.

Ochola says the force has improved on conditions in detention facilities and 68% are waterborne toilets. " police in coordination with other joint forces has resulted in reduction of gun related crimes,illegal fire arms and ammunition proliferation, terrorism among others, " He states.

He says police in future will address issues like improving the general welfare of the personnel, conducting speciliased training, carrying out more recruitments to address the police and population ratio,Digitalizing the human resource management system among others.
The Annual crime report was attended Several security chiefs from various agencies,DPP Justice Francis Adobo among others.
