Gunmen Kill Uganda Breweries Driver, Rob Over Shs23M in Mukono.

Police in Mukono are investigating a case of aggravated robbery and murder that happened on April 6th, 2023.

 According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrick Onyango , a Tatta lorry with registration number UBL 555W was intercepted by two unknown armed men along Mukono Kayunga road while distributing Bell products from Kalagi and surrounding areas.

The armed men fired at the vehicle, injuring the driver, identified as Bazzale Azadi, and robbed Shs 23,022,700. “The lorry lost control and entered a roadside trench. The driver was assisted by the loader and taken to St Joseph Medical Centre in Mukono on a motorcycle but was later referred to St Francis Medical Center and then to Mulago Hospital, where he died on the way”, Onyango said.

“Four people, including the sales executive and three loaders who were on the vehicle at the time of the attack, have been arrested to aid in investigations”, he added.

The lorry has been towed to the police and exhibited, and one cartridge was recovered at the scene. Blood samples were also retrieved from the scene.

This is the second time the same people have been robbed in less than two months, despite police guidance that they should have armed escorts and use banking agents when transporting large sums of money. However, they refused to adhere to the directives.

The police have urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. They have also advised people to follow their guidelines to ensure their safety and the safety of their property.

The suspects are still at large, and the police are urging anyone with information that can lead to their arrest to come forward. The police have assured the public that they will work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
