Court Remands Burora Anderson Again Up To Friday

Former Rubaga Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Herbert Anderson Burora has todayTuesday appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s court for his bail hearing but was again remanded up to Friday 12th July 2024.

Burora was on July 4 charged with hate speech and malicious information under the Computer Misuse Act before being remanded to Luzira Prison till July 9, 2024.

Should Burora be convicted of the offenses, will be slapped with a fine not exceeding 750 currency points (Shs 15 million) or imprisonment not exceeding seven years, or both.

Court heard that between March and June 2024 in the areas of Kampala district or thereabout while using X (formerly Twitter) handle ‘@HarderHB’, Burora shared information that was likely to ridicule, degrade or demean and promote hostility against the speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among.

Lawyer David Kamukama, representing former Rubaga deputy RCC, Herbert Anderson Burora, has requested the court to dismiss the case alleging hate speech and spreading malicious information against the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

This request is based on insufficient details provided in the charge sheet regarding the alleged offenses.

However, Burora's legal team has filed an application for bail on behalf of their client, with the ruling scheduled for this Friday.

The prosecution team is led by state attorneys Richard Birivumbuka, Joan Keko, and Ivan Kyazze informed the court that investigations into the matter were still ongoing and requested the chargesheet be allowed to stand.

Burora has since denied the charges.
