Fatal Accident in Mayuge District Claims 9 Lives, Injures 6

Traffic Police have a fatal accident involving a motor vehicle Reg. No UBE 939H Toyota Hiace and a trailer Reg. No RAC 603Q/RL 1055 Benz Actross on the 3-11-2023 at about 11:45pm at Musiti Along Jinja-Iganga Road in Mayuge District. 

It's alleged that the driver of the vehicle Reg. No UBE 939H while speeding at Musiti Along Jinja-Iganga Road rammed into a stationary trailer from the rear. This trailer had broken down along the highway due to a mechanical fault and had not put any emergency warning signs/reflectors to alert other road users. 

09 people died of which 04 died on spot and 05 died from the hospital. The dead included 01 Female Baby 05 months old, 03 women and 05 men all passangers in the taxi including the driver. 
Bodies were taken to Iganga Hospital pending postmortem.

06 others were injured and rashed to the same hospital for treatment. Both motor vehicles were towed to Maga maga police station pending Inspection.

"According to the preliminary investigations, the cause of the accident is the broken down trailer without no emergency warning signs/Reflectors & the speeding driver of taxi," said SP Kananura Michael PRO Traffic.

He further warned all those that drive beyond the prescribed speed limits, which reduces the reaction time, and cautioned all goods vehicles to possess emergency warning signs/ reflectors and put them to use in case of any break down.
