Govt Orders A Two Hour Weekly Physical Exercises To All Workers.

The government of Uganda has issued a directive to all public servants to have a two-hour physical exercise every week in order to keep them fit and healthy.

This order is issued from the Office of the President by the head of public service and the secretary to the cabinet Lucy Nakyobe.
The directive is addressed to all Permanent secretaries, Clerk to Parliament, and to the executive Directors and Chief Executive Officer of all Agencies.

Nakyobe says that the two hours weekly physical exercise session aimed at promoting good health among others.

She has ordered for urgent attention so as to reduce on the unfitness related diseases.

The studies of illness-related premature unfitness for work in civil servants, psychological and psychosomatic illnesses were found to be the 'number one' illness among persons taking early retirement. According to Europe PMC Foundation Group

The research conducted in German and reflects to all public servants, the median age at which these persons became unfit for work was 52 in women and 55 in men.

In view of the high prevalence of psychological disorders, and the increasing tendency towards early retirement and the considerable jump forward in the age this happens compared to in previous studies with small collectives, a preventive strategy must be developed which takes into account the evidence gained in social-medical and occupational-medical practice.
