Gov't to Study and See how to Merge the Sharia Principles within the PDM. Museveni Says
The president of the republic of Uganda, HE, Gen Rtd, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has vowed to look into the matters raised by Muslim leaders towards the implementation of the Parish Development Model PDM.
"I had the opportunity to meet the Muslim leaders at Entebbe and I was informed that the Parish Development Model (PDM) contravenes Islamic law, regarding the issue of loans offered with interest," the president said in a statement.
"I welcomed their proposals, which we shall study and see how to merge the Sharia principles within the PDM," he added.
President Museveni launched the Parish Development Model (PDM) in February 2022 aimed at helping people from parish level to increase their household incomes and joining the money economy.
It is an extension of the-whole-of government approach to development as envisaged under the National Development Plan3 NDPIII with the parish as the lowest administrative and operational hub for delivering services closer to the people and hence fostering economic development.
Each of the 10,594 parishes in Uganda receives shs 100m coordinated by the Parish Chief and will report to the Sub-County Chief. Each Parish, has a cooperative society through which Government support is channeled.
