Police Arrest Aponye’s Driver on Charges of Causing Death by Reckless Driving

Police in Ntungamo District have in custody the driver of the late businessman Apollo Nyegamehe, alias Aponye, in the aftermath of a fatal road accident. 

Aponye, along with three others, was traveling to attend a burial ceremony when the car he occupied, a V8 Land cruiser, registration number UBF300Z collided with a stationary Fuso Truck registration number UAZ 767D which was loaded with Irish potatoes along the Kabale-Mbarara highway. Aponye died on the spot, while his driver, Moses Buyinza, survived with injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson said, “the driver is being held at Ntungamo Central Police Station on charges of causing death due to reckless driving. The case file is awaiting the resident state attorney’s perusal and advice from the resident State Attorney.”

The police have identified the owner of the stationary truck, loaded with Irish potatoes, but the truck driver is currently on the run.
