High Court Commences Cross Examination of Witnesses in Minister Nandutu’s Iron Sheets Case

The High Court Justice Jane Kajuga at the Anti-Corruption Court has on Thursday 27/07/2023 started hearing the cross examination of witnesses in iron sheets case of State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon Agnes Nandutu. 

The first Prosecution witness emerged as Hilda Evelyn Bazibu, a political assistant to the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs. Bazibu told court that she received a call from Minister Nandutu, detailing how she obtained 2,000 iron sheets from Minister Maria Goretti Kitutu. According to Bazibu, her boss then asked her to collect the sheets from Namanve and store them at her home for two weeks.

Hon Nandutu was committed to High Court for trial on charges of dealing with suspect property contrary to section 21A(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009.

Prosecution alleges that during the month of June 2022 at the Office of the Prime Minister’s Stores in Namanve and Kkola Cell Bulwanyi Parish Mukono District, Nandutu dealt with government property that is 2,000 prepainted iron sheets Gauge 28 by receiving and holding the said iron sheets.

According to the prosecution, Nandutu had reason to believe the iron sheets were acquired as a result of loss of public property an offense under section 10 of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2000 as amended.
