Traffic Police Embarks On Taking Road Safety Campaign To The Grassroots
A team of traffic officers in the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety headed by Community Liaison Officer (CLO)Traffic SP Kananura Michael, has embarked on a program of taking road safety to the grassroots.
In Rwenzori West, the team visited places such as Mpanga Market in Kabalole, Kibito Town Council & Rwimi in Bunyangabo, sensitizing the communities on good Road Safety practices targeting the market vendors, Boda Boda riders and tax drivers.
This program aims at promoting behavioral change by putting emphasis on everyone's responsibility in road safety.
The beneficiaries raised their concerns, promised to change and be part of promoting road safety through behavioral change.
Last year SP Micheal Kananura noted that 87 people lost lost their lives in road accidents between August 12 and August 19, 2023.
Kananura attributed the fatalities to over speeding, wrong overtaking, eating while driving and concentration on phones while behind the wheel.
