Jacob Oulanyah, the former speaker of the 11th Parliament, passed away on March 20, 2022, while in the United States. His son, Andrew Ojok, succeeded him and was elected as the Omoro parliamentary representative in the previous year. Mr. Justus Tugume, Oulanyah's political assistant, announced that the commemorative events for his late boss would extend for seven days from March 14 to March 26, 2023. Andrew Ojok is the primary planner of the memorial activities to honor his father's memory.
The upcoming events to honor the late Speaker of Parliament will begin with the J. Oulanyah Memorial Cup launch scheduled for this Sunday in Omoro. This will be followed by a memorial service at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala on Monday at 3pm.
Next week, on Thursday, Parliament will pay tribute to the former Speaker. After that, a tribute ride to Awere in Omoro District will be taken by Ugandan bikers, which the late Speaker was part of. This will be followed by the Oulanyah Legacy Autocross Competition.
The organizers have expressed their intention to commemorate and pay tribute to the late J. Oulanyah, who passed away at the age of 56. They want to remember him as a beloved grandfather, father, son, brother, friend, mentor, leader, patriot, orator, and an inspiration to numerous individuals globally.
Oulanyah was the Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. However, for unknown reasons, the post has been vacant since his passing.
