Katwe police CID Boss Waigo defies Court, Refuses suspects to appear before magistrate on a sanctioned file.

Katwe police station officer in charge of criminal investigations department Asp James Waigo yesterday refused to produce five suspects whose file of unlawful confinement of police officers and obstruction was sanctioned and the suspects were supposed to appear before Makindye magistrate Court.

The five suspects who were supposed to appear before Court have been identified as Omonya Iddi, Manono Jenaro, Nakirya Justin and Lwachango Solome who are all workers at HARCHAR INTERNATIONAL LABOUR AGENCY located in Makindye division.

According to our sources, the confined officers had gone to the said labour company to investigate allegations of human trafficking which was reported by a one Nalule Christine.

Our sources added that Nalule Christine reported a case of Human trafficking vide SD ref 78/08/02/2023 accusing HARCHAR INTERNATIONAL LABOUR AGENCY of trafficking her sister illegally to Saudi Arabia in Dec 2022.

Sources added that Nalule Christine alleged that her sister who was trafficked was identified as Nakiboneka Salome who Nalule told police that she had died from Saudi Arabia and that the said company had refused to avail the family the details of their girl and that they want police to help them either retrieve and bring back the body of their girl.

"After receiving the complaint at police, a file was of Human trafficking was opened vide SD 87/08/02/2023 and on orders of our boss Asp Waigo, we booked out and went to the offices of that labour company to establish the facts but to our shock, after entering and introducing ourselves to these people, we didn't know where the order came from only to be told by the workers of this company, that we are not going anywhere” says one of the police officers who were in the operation.

Another source told us after being confined, they called the officer in charge of station (OC station) who later rescued them from the with a police patrol car with officers.

When OC came with Man power of our fellow officers, they forced these people to open and immediately after opening, we arrested and brought them police station where we charged them with unlawful confinement and obstruction vide SD 68/10/02/2023.

The file was investigated and later taken to Director of public prosecution DPP for legal advice where the DPP sanctioned it and ordered police to produce the suspect before Court. But shockingly OC Cid Katwe police station Asp Waigo refused to produce suspects before Court.

When asked for a comment, SSP Patrick Onyango the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson told us that OC Cid Katwe police told him that he also got orders from his bosses not to produce the suspects to court.

"It's true the file for these suspects is sanctioned but the OC Cid Katwe police station Asp Waigo told me that he got orders from his bosses not to produce these suspects to court because they are witnesses in a case where some police officers are being charged in displinary court,"says Onyango.
