Minister Nandutu Granted Bail

The Anti Corruption Civil Division of the High Court has granted a 10 million shillings bail to the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Agnes Nandutu.

The Minister appeared this morning before Lady Justice, Jane Okuo Kajuga who granted her bail application on grounds of ill health and the presumption of innocence.

Lady Justice Okuo directed Hon Nandutu to pay a 10 million shillings cash bond whereas each of the three sureties is to pay 50 million shillings non-cash bond namely; Hon James Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the former leader of opposition in Parliament, Member of Parliament, Hon Gerald Nangoli, and Bududa District LC5 Chairperson Kamoti Milton Apollo Wasumbuyi.

Hon Nandutu was also asked to deposit two titles of her land in Mukono whereas one of her sureties has also been asked to deposit the title of his land located in Namugongo.

Nandutu was remanded to prison on May 3rd, 2023 following her arrest in connection to the Karamoja iron sheet scandal. The prosecution alleges that she dealt with 2,000 prepainted iron sheets Gauge 28, knowing that they were obtained as a result of the loss of public property, an offense under Section 10 of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2000.
