Nansana X-mass Robberies, Residents Turn To Use Of Mob Action On Thieves Than Reporting To Police
As we are heading for Christmas season, cases of robberies and thefts in areas of Nansana,Nabweru, Ganda and surrounding areas are on serious rise and the local residents are now living under serious tension and fear of their lives and properties including cash.
The residents have also lost some hopes in police and courts of law as robbers are always released on police bond and court bails and later resume their robbery activities.
As of results, the tired residents have now resorted to use of mob actions against the robbers who are always got on scenes. As we talk now, over the weekend, three robbers have been killed by mob in areas of Ganda and Nabweru over robberies of TV and Motor cycle.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire says three robbers from Ganda were chased after stealing a TV and were arrested.
"The mob beat one to death and two others sustained severe injuries and are not receiving treatment in the hospital," he says adding that Bob also killed another thug from Nabweru on allegations of stealing motor cycle.
RESIDENTS SPEAK OUT:
When we interviewed some local residents in areas of Ganda about using mob actions against thieves they say "We have learnt that some thugs in Nansana connive with police and when we arrest them, they don't even spend a night in police custody because they pay heavily and when they come, they begin they stopped," Says one of the Local resident.
He adds that even when police take them to Court after after noise from the Community, they are bailed out. "When we report these thugs to police and they are released after paying bribes, they come and start harassing us and at times they storm our families and cause injuries on us," another resident of Nabweru says. They say if they are got on scenes, we shall not take them to police but to kill them.
"We shall only be calling police to pick dead bodies than picking live people. " We have not got justice in these robberies even if police recover some stolen money, they don't hand over to their owners but eat them. So we shall always end cases by killing the robbers,"Another group of people say adding that this can reduce robberies in Nansana.
"To tell you that thugs connect with police when even we get one they claim am not a thief, just take me to police well knowing that he will be released from there. We have decided to end their lives on scene," Says one of the affected persons.
