UPDF Officer, Three Others Arrested Over Killing A Man With 27 Bullets After Fighting Over A Woman Inside A Bar.
The territorial police with sister security agencies are conducting a joint investigation into the tragic shooting that resulted in the death of one Okullo Haggai at a bar in Kworo B Village, Kidilani Parish, Chegere Sub-County, Apac District.
This incident occurred on 8 January 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m.
Preliminary findings indicate that Pte Amali Jacob, a soldier from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 103 Infantry Battalion, was present at the bar with two civilians, identified as Ibende and Olira.
A dispute reportedly arose between them and the victim, allegedly over a woman.
It is noted that Pte Amali Jacob had earlier sought permission from his commander to visit the town for mobile money services, leaving his firearm behind at the barracks.
Upon reaching the scene, police recovered seven spent cartridges.
The body of the deceased was transported to Apac Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Subsequently, Pte Amali Jacob was apprehended at the residence of his father, Omuge Francis, in Kworo.
Further investigations led to the recovery of the following items: An AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, concealed in a swamp approximately half a kilometre from the crime scene.
A rusty SMG rifle and a stick grenade from the civilian residence of Omuge Francis.
Three additional suspects; Ibende, Olira, and Oyom Denis (alias Ebende), have been arrested and are currently detained at Apac Central Police Station.
