National Coffee Amendment Bill 2024 Passed

The parliament of Uganda has passed the National Coffee Amendment Bill 2024 into act. 

The Agricultural Minister Hon Frank Tumwebaze noted that the rationalization of UCDA to the Ministry of Agriculture,Animal Husbandry and Fisheries is aimed at solidating effort to have the national treasure(Coffee) is promoted.

After Passing the bill,the speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among has refuted allegations of conflict of interest on Coffee Bill, saying Rule 94 of the Rules of Procedure as cited by the LOP, does not apply to the Speaker because he or she neither debates nor votes. "Let's debate with logic not politics." 

She said that her statement during last week's debate on the Coffee Bill was quoted out of context.

"I was quoted out of context and in an event, this is a House of records and being the custodian of the Rules of Procedure, if anybody thinks that I mentioned what the Leader of Opposition mentioned then I want to urge that member to bring documentary evidence". She said. 

The bill has been passed when the Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi led some opposition members out of plenery in opposition of passing the bill.

In the same sitting,the Uganda National Roads Authority (Repeal) 1Bill, 2024, which seeks to dissolve Uganda National Roads Authority and mainstream its functions to Ministry of Works and Transport has been passed with an amendment.
