NRM SEC Gen Richard Todwong's Brother Maj Opio Patrick Killed In Somalia Attack.

The National Resistance Movement Secretary Genenral Richard Twodongo has praised his brother Maj. opio Patrick Awany for protecting serving his nation deligently.

"I celebrate my brother, Maj. Opio Patrick Awany. Your dedication to protecting our country was your code and you approached your duty with unmatched passion. You bravely faced countless battles in the Central African Republic, Eastern DRC Congo and Somalia". Said Twodong

" Maj Opio has been a true representative of the Ugandan Flag. With honor, we offer a final salute as his honorable soul lay at rest. He has been a true fighter for his continent Africa. Farewell Soldier, farewell. Be strong Hon. It is a dark day for us all". Says Col Deo Akiiki the deputy defence spokesperson.

“Al Shabaab laid an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) against his convoy which hit his vehicle and killed him.”

Akiiki revealed that, several UPDF soldiers were injured in the attack which occurred at 1:00pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024 between Buulo Nagad and Ceel Wareego, Lower Shabelle in Somalia.

The ill-fated convoy was carrying logistics. Akiiki added.

Maj Awany “belonged to the Motorised Infantry Brigade of the UPDF and died on the spot. The injured were airlifted to Level II hospital in Mogadishu. Said Akiiki.

 “Your life was tragically cut short this morning 7/7/2024 as you served our continent Africa. May your legacy endure to inspire more heroes. We will forever hold you in our hearts, Patrick. You were a true patriot.”

 

Maj Awany belonged to the Motorised Infantry Brigade In June 2023, Al Shabaab killed 54 Ugandan soldiers at a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buulo Mareer, Lower Shabelle. Posted Twodong on his X handle.
