NUP Demands Apology from Government over Brutality of its Leaders

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon Mathias Mpuuga from the National Unity Platform NUP party demands that the government apologises to the Opposition parties and the respective leaders for the brutality and other violations.

The call was made this morning when the Opposition Caucus convened to chart a way forward following yesterday's walkout from Plenary on Tuesday afternoon.

"We reiterated our demand that the regime offers an explanation in regard to the continued violation of the rights of various Opposition supporters and leaders as well as the seige on National Unity Platform NUP party headquarters," Mpuuga said.

"We also demand that the perpetrators be brought to book plus a commitment from the government that such violations will not be repeated," he added.

As Uganda was celebrating the 61st Independence Day anniversary in Kitgum District, NUP was planning to have prayers held at their headquarters in Kamwokya.

Security operatives cordoned off the offices and apprehended the Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, Joel Ssenyonyi the party spokesperson and others.
