One Feared Dead Several Others Injured In Masaka Road Accident
ACCIDENT | At least one person was killed and several others sustained injuries when a bus overturned on the Kampala-Masaka Road on Satu
Kamala masaka road accident has claimed life of one erson identified as Cissy Nabadda, a pedestrian from Butende Village in Masaka District, who died on the spot after being struck by the bus.
The accident occurred at Mpugwe Village when the driver of the bus belonging to Global Coaches registration UAZ 809X heading to Mbarara from Kampala lost control while trying to avoid a stationary trailer registration CG 01493AC that was parked on the roadside.
According to eye witnesses, the driver of the bus, identified as Hamidu Ggombe, attempted to dodge the Congolese truck and struck Nabadda before overturning into the road reserve.
Ggombe fled the scene and his current whereabout are yet known.
Survivors of the accident recounted harrowing details, with some attributing the collision to reckless driving on the part of Ggombe.
"It all happened so fast," one survivor said, "the bus was swerving, and before we knew it, we had hit the truck."
"The bus was speeding and we warned the driver several times, but he didn't listen," said one of the survivors, who wished to remain anonymous.
The injured, whose number could not be readily established, were taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.
The Southern Region Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, attributed it to reckless driving.
