One Murdered over Kireka Barracks Demonstrations

Police has commenced investigations in the death of a person which occurred on 13/11/2023, during a demonstration at Kireka Barracks involving residents of the area.

Regrettably, amidst the demonstration, it is reported that rioters threw stones at officers dispatched to disperse the group. Tragically, a stray bullet took the life of an unidentified male adult during the dispersal.

In response to the escalating situation, tear gas was employed to restore order. The body of the  deceased was conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago. The Kampala Metropolitan East and Jinja Road Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the initiation of this unlawful demonstration and are determined to identify the officer responsible for the stray bullet incident .

"We appeal to the local community for calm as investigations are underway. Furthermore, a team, led by the Commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police, is scheduled to meet with local leaders today, on 14th November 2023, to collaboratively decide on the way forward," ASP Luke Owoyesigyire Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police said.
