Police Commanders Tasked to Charge to Court Perpetrators of Domestic Violence

The police leadership has tasked its commanders to ensure all perpetrators of domestic violence are charged to court and those still at large tracked down, arrested and brought to book.

The development comes after police registered several incidents of domestic violence, which continue to be a concern, within the community. The most affected persons are female victims and elderly persons.

In Rukungiri, police is actively searching for a one Tumworobere Amos alias Gift, who on the night of 11.10.2023, at Kateramo trading centre, Kikongi parish, cut his wife Kyomugisha Annet aged 23, to the neck with a panga, killing her instantly. The two started staying together in February, 2023, without any conflict. The victim left a 4 year old son, called Anderson, who informed their neighbour, Kemigisha Shillah, about her mother’s lifeless body in a pool of blood on the bed. The panga was recovered and the body of the deceased transported to Rwakabenga HC III for post-mortem.

In Ssezibwa Region and Buvuma district, detectives have in custody a one Malekwa Majid. a 45 year old, peasant of Mittium LCI, Bweema sub county in Buvuma district for the alleged murder by hacking with a panga, of his wife Nalumansi Asia aged 40 killing her instantly. The incident occurred on the 10.10.2023, at around 10am, after the couple developed a misunderstanding in the forest, while burning charcoal. The suspect abandoned the body of his wife in the forest.

Detectives from KMP/E and Naggalama division, have in custody, a one Kyeswa Yusuf, for the alleged murder by hacking of his step-mother Nakanwagi Kevina, who sustained multiple injuries on the body and a deep cut to the head. The motive of the murder was theft of the Ugx 3m, which his father had handed over to the victim, after selling off land worth Ugx 20m. The suspect dumped the body of his step-mother in the pit latrine at Nakyeeke village, Kayiri parish in Mukono district, the exhibit of a hoe was recovered.

The police in Rwenzori West and Fortportal North has in custody, two suspects for the alleged murder by strangling of a one Mwesige Peter, a 42 year old, boda boda rider of Babwa village in Kabarole district. The incident occurred on the 14.10.2023, at around 1am. A night guard on duty saw suspects on two bodabodas transporting the the deceased’s motorcycle along the river bank. The suspect include; Kobusinge Winnie, 29 year old, housewife and Musinguzi Bernardo, a 35 year old, peasant of Butebe Kyakitara cell. Body of the victim was retrieved from the river Mpanga at around 3pm.

Police in Greater Bushenyi and Bushenyi CPS are searching for a one Byaruhanga Richard, a 23 year old, peasant of Kayojo cell, central division, for the murder by assault of his grandmother, Anyesi Tiberebwa, aged 96. The facts gathered indicates that on the 14.10.2023 at around 7pm, the suspect complained about a headache and requested family members to pray for him. At around 7pm, the suspect attacked the victim in her bedroom, and forced her to pray for him. He aggressively pushed the victim and she hit her head on the floor and died instantly. The suspect escaped after the murder. Efforts to have him arrested are in place.

In Mityana police has in custody, a one Kibuuka, for the attempted murder and unlawful wounding of his father Mugerwa Fred and his sister Nakanjako Christine aged 38. Third victim, Zaveri, their neighbour who responded to the fracas was also injured. The suspect claims his father and sister did not share part of the proceeds from the land they sold with him. The panga used was recovered and exhibited. The incident occurred on the14.10.2023 at around 7:30pm, at Lubanja cell, Busimbi division in Mityana district.

SCP Enanga Fred the Police Spokesperson said, "Such acts of impunity and violence in families, only worsen the sanctity of marriage and relationships, within the community."

He called onto police commanders to ensure all perpetrators of domestic violence are charged to court and those still at large tracked down, arrested and brought to book.
