The Territorial Police in KMP South and Nateete, are investigating circumstances under which, a one Sseginuja Mohammed, a 6 year old, male juvenile and son to Nassazi Sarah, aged 22 was kidnapped from Mutundwe-Mbawo zone in Rubaga division, Kampala district.
According to the gathered information, the young victim was approached by an unknown man who enticed him with the promise of buying him a bicycle as a birthday gift. The stranger managed to lure the boy away, and he subsequently disappeared. Despite immediate efforts to search the neighborhood, the boy could not be found, and the matter was reported to the police.
Fortunately, the victim was later abandoned by the stranger, who borrowed a phone from a boda boda rider in Kisenyi to make a call and then fled, leaving the boy behind. The local police were able to recover the victim and reunite him with his parents.
"It is concerning to note that this new method of using children as bait is becoming increasingly common in Rubaga division. The police are urging the public to exercise caution and refrain from handing over their mobile phones when approached by individuals accompanied by young children. It is important for people to interview the child and determine their relationship with the person accompanying them," said Fred Enanga.
"The use of innocent children in criminal activities is both inhumane and a violation of their rights. The police are actively working to identify the suspect responsible for this heinous act and ensure that they face the full force of the law," Enanga added.
