Police Officer Kills a Suspect after Refusing Rearrest over a Sanctioned File.

A police officer indentified as No.72911 PC Ocheng Godfrey attached to Nebbi Police Station last night shot dead a suspect identified as Munguryek Maceleno aged 40 years an Alur, a peasant and a resident of Moro Village, Kalwang Parish Nebbi Subcounty in Nebbi district.

Its alleged that on 4/7/2023, police officers commanded by AIP Ozelle attached to Nebbi Police Station, went for an operation of effecting arrest of  suspects who jumped police bond on a sanctioned case file of Malicious damage and threatening violence resulting from a land wrangle but the suspects turned violent against the officers. They were also armed with their weapons such as knives, hoes, pangas and canebis drug or opium.

According to a report, the deceased was about to injure one of the police officers who was unarmed after resisting arrest with his colleagues, when one No.72911 Pc Ocheng Godfrey who was armed with AK 47 gun used it to defend his collegues by shooting to disable the deceased. Unfortunately, a bullet got him around the dangerous body part(ribs) which caused overbleeding and on reaching Nebbi hospital, he was pronounced dead.

In response the uncles to the deceased reacted by burning some houses of the relatives of the deceased, claiming that they were the cause of the death.

Police before filing this story, was yet to visit the scene for further examination due to the threat that the community members are still violent. However the postmortem was done and Two suspects arrested. Dangerous weapons including a knife, hoe and opium were exhibited.
