Police Rescue South African National Kidnapped In Makindye
Police flying squad in Kampala have rescued a south African national identified as Amos Masoga Morubura, a 40-year-old and Uber operator, who was kidnapped in the Bandogo zone, Makindye Division, Kampala District.
Mr Morubura, who was visiting Uganda and residing in the Bandogo zone, was abducted around Munyonyo and subjected to torture by unknown suspects.
This distressing incident was reported through a video circulating on social media.
Following the kidnapping, a team from the Flying Squad contacted the victim's brother in South Africa for more details on the alleged kidnappers.
Mr. Morubura was subsequently traced to a house in Bandogo, where he was found tied up and showing signs of torture. He was then brought to Katwe Police Station, where his statement was taken.
We have established that Mr. Morubura arrived in Uganda on the 28th of May 2024 and had been staying with friends.
He alleges that he confronted his Ugandan friend Peter Mulondo and his accomplice Elijah for making unauthorized withdrawals from his bank account.
This confrontation allegedly angered the duo, who then kidnapped him as he was heading to the airport on the 31st of July 2024 around Munyonyo area .
They tied and tortured him, demanding a ransom of 100,000 South African Rand from his brother in South Africa.
His brother posted the video on social media seeking help, which ultimately reached police . Mr. Morubura was rescued on the 1st of August 2024.
The suspects are currently on the run, but efforts are ongoing to locate and prosecute them. The Kampala Metropolitan Police commends the team of Flying Squad officers who responded and successfully rescued the victim.
