Presidential Directive On Eviction During Xmas Festivities Still Stands; Minister Nabakooba

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon Judith Nabakooba has reiterated to the public that President Museveni's directive on all evictions during festive periods still stands.

While delivering a New Year's message to Ugandans, Hon Nabakooba said, "No evictions shall be conducted during these Christmas and New Year holidays." She explained that all the responsible offices, such as courts and land administration, are on holiday. Many wrong people, therefore, take advantage of this time to harass innocent tenants.

The Minister advised all those with court orders or any issues to liaise with the District Land Security Committees headed by the RDCs for guidance on undertaking any eviction. "I want to remind all custodians in charge of the organization’s land, Church land, and any public land to be extra vigilant during these days. Work closely with Uganda Police and other security agencies to protect your land well."

She noted that, "as a Ministry, we have noted increased greed and forgery amongst administrators and caretakers of land. I appeal to family members and beneficiaries to use this holiday season to reflect upon these matters to avoid any issues."
