Property Worth Millions Perish In Kalerwe Market Fire
Police at Wandegeya are investigating a fire outbreak that occurred at approximately 1:46 a.m. today at Kalerwe Market.
The fire is believed to have started on the east end of the market along Gayaza Road, spreading rapidly and destroying several wooden stalls.
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded promptly and successfully contained the fire.
While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause, preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have resulted from electrical sparks caused by illegal power connections and installations in the market’s kiosks.
"We urge Umeme to conduct regular inspections of electrical connections, particularly in wooden structures.We also recommend all electrical installations in kiosks and shops be carried out by certified professionals to prevent similar incidents.
