Recent Events in FDC, Secretary General Nandala Mafabi Explains

The Secretary General of the Forum for Democratic Change FDC party, Hon Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has on Wednesday 19/07/2023 issued a press statement on the recent events surrounding the party.

Hon Mafabi extended his greetings and gratitude to all for joining them today for the press briefing. "We are here to address the recent events that have unfolded within the FDC," he said.

"During a consultative meeting in Nsambya on Monday, certain individuals within our party launched attacks against the FDC leadership, including President Hon. Patrick Amuriat and myself as the Secretary General. It is important for us, as accountable leaders, to provide the true account of the situation.

These attacks are not isolated incidents; rather, they are part of a larger pattern of constant attacks, blackmail, and propaganda orchestrated by individuals driven by selfish ambitions for power and personal gain within the party. Their mission is to bring us down and tarnish the image of the FDC, which we have worked hard to build over a long period of time," Nandala Mafabi noted.

As a reputable political organization, the FDC has a robust conflict management system to address internal issues without compromising our cohesion. We have made efforts to engage these individuals, understand their grievances, and resolve them internally. However, the allegations made during the Nsambya meeting were shocking and baseless.

"One of the claims made by Hon. Ssemujju Nganda and others is that we received large sums of money from President Museveni with the intention of handing over the FDC to him. This is a groundless accusation. The FDC is a political party with its own structures and stakeholders; it is not a personal property that can be handed over to anyone. Those making such allegations should provide evidence to support their claims.

There have also been claims that I made a deal with President Museveni to exchange the FDC for the position of Bank of Uganda Governor. I want to clarify that I possess the qualifications, experience, and expertise to hold such a position. However, no one has approached me with such an offer, and I have no interest in working with President Museveni. Those spreading these falsehoods are doing so for their own personal reasons," he told the press.

Another accusation is that FDC used mysterious money to procure vehicles for the 2021 general elections. The truth is that these vehicles were acquired through legitimate means, with payments made over a period of time rather than in a single deposit.

"These attacks are clearly an attempt to derail us and pave the way for Hon. Ssemujju and his group to take over the party for their own selfish ambitions. Despite repeated requests, they have failed to provide any evidence to support their claims. This raises questions about their motives and whether their actions are driven by malice.

While it may be tempting to respond in kind and engage in character assassination, we, as seasoned and respectable leaders, will not stoop to that level. However, we feel it is necessary to shed light on the fraudulent activities of Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, particularly his misuse of public funds for activities he did not undertake. We have documented evidence that we are prepared to share with the public.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, I have declared my personal assets and business interests. I challenge Hon. Ssemujju to do the same. He is welcome to run for the position of FDC Secretary General in a fair contest, but he cannot tilt the playing field in his favour..." Nandala emphasized.

He concluded by reminding the press that FDC believes in the democratic processes and this is the reason why an electoral road map has been drawn to renew party structure leadership through election. "This fraction of leaders will not derail us from achieving this.
I thank you all.
One Uganda, One People.'
