Six Die While Putting Up Wedding Tents

The territorial police in mubende are actively investigating rush and neglect case that caused death of 6 people.

The incident occured on 06/06/2024 at Butawata market ,Butawata "E" VILLAGE, Kigando parish, Kigandoo Subcounty in mubende district.

The deceased persons have been identified as Asaba Godwin Bidewa Male adult 40years old resident of Kigando village, Kigando parish , Kigando subcounty in Mubende district, Byamukama Boaz 51year old resident Namugongo village Kigando parish Kigando aubcounty in Mubende district, Ayebazibwe Jordan male aged 22yrs Business man resident of Butawata "W Village Kigando parish Kigando subcounty in mubende district. 

Others are Walusimbi George a Male19 yr old resident of Rwensha village Kigando parish , Kigando subcounty in mubende district, Kakuru Ambrose male aged 30years and a resident of Lusanga village Kigando parish Kigando subcounty mubende district and Kyozzo Nasasira innocent a 32yr old Boda Boda rider resident of Kabateza "B"village ,Kigando parish , Kigando subcounty mubende district.

 Preliminary findings indicate that six deceased persons were hired by Otamugaya Nelson (groom) to erect tents for his wedding function which was scheduled to take place today 06.06.2024 at about 1200hrs at Butawata Market ground.

It is alleged that while erecting the tent, it's metalic edge got in contact with electricity wire/lines there by causing electrocution resulting into the death of six persons.

 The deceased persons were electrocuted by three phase lines.

"Our task team led by dpc mubende,Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (UEDCL) responded to the scene of crime. A case of Rush and Neglect Act causing death has been opened up and investigations have commenced vide KSB CRB:160/202" . Police noted.

The Scene of Crime was examined and documented. Statements of relevant witnesses have been recorded. 

Bodies of the deceased persons have been taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for Postmortem.

 One Otamugaya Nelson the groom and a former teacher at Kigando SEED Secondary school was rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for first aid after collapsing due to the shock and is currently admitted.

 However the area police had not been informed about the function. It has also been established that people in that area had illegal power connections. 

SP Racheal Kawala the Police public relations officer Wamala Region confirmed the incident and cautioned members of the public against illegal power connections as it is life threatening .
