Speaker Among Bows to Opposition Demands, Orders M7 Ministers to Present a Statement on Abduction of Ugandans Tomorrow.
Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Anitah Among has ordered the Minister of Security, Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, to table a statement responding to the issues of human rights violations raised by the Opposition. This comes after the time requested by the Executive within which to respond, expired.
While chairing plenary on Tuesday afternoon, the speaker told the August House that, "The Minister of Security wrote to me and asked for an additional one week which ended yesterday. I am now directing that the Executive presents a report to this House tomorrow. Let us be accountable to this country, let us be transparent and let us do what we have been sent to do in this House."
Last week, Speaker Among said "it is unfair for a section of MPs to absent themselves from the House, and that the Rule on absenteeism will apply to all without exception."
