Speaker Bows To LOP's Demands To Recall Parliament From Recess, Begins On Friday

The Speaker of Parliament has responded to various calls from Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and members of parliament to recall parliament back into session.

Now Plenary sitting in the Parliament of Uganda will resume tomorrow, 15th March 2024 according to the notice issued by the clerk to the parliament.

The Leader of the opposition Joel Ssenyonyi was the last to call upon the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among to come out with an official statement regarding the appropriation of funds within the institution that she leads and further ask the Speaker to immediately recall parliament back into session.

The clerk to parliament Hon. Adolf Mwesigye Kasaija has issued a notice of resumption of plenary sittings on 15th march 2024.

Yesterday some National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs joined their counterparts in the Opposition,to demand for the immediate recall of Parliament from recess and having the top leadership at Parliament respond to the allegations of corruption and abuse of office that have been unearthed on social media.

Known as the rebel National Resistance Movement members of Parliament, Hon.Ssekikubo was accompanied by Barnabas Tinkasimire (Buyaga West) made the remarks during a press briefing at Parliament where they called out Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja for issuing a directive, ordering the Clerk to Parliament to rescind his earlier communication he had sent out to reconvene plenary sitting, describing Nabbanja’s actions as a capture of the legislature by the Executive.
