You Also Have To Sit For PLE, Minister Orders Nakaseke Lc5 Chairperson Who Forced Teachers To Sit For Exams.
Nakaseke district chairperson stunned Ugandans when he decided to administer exams to poorly performed school teachers to find out why the district schools performed poorly compared to the last year.
About 40 teachers were tricked into attending a meeting with the district officials at Nakaseke Technical Institute on March 13th, 2024 only to be subjected to PLE past papers depending on the subject each teacher teaches in their respective schools.
Nakaseke district leadership had passed a resolution to have poorly performing school headteachers and classroom teachers account for the poor results. It had also been decided that the affected headteachers could be demoted to the position of deputy with another option of demotion to a primary six class teacher which Mr. Koomu found not enough to solve the problem of increasing failures in the district.
Out of the 4813 candidates that sat for 2023 PLE in Nakaseke district,276 candidates completely failed which annoyed the district head Mr. Koomu forcing him to find a lasting solution to the problem.
Koomu says that subjecting teachers to PLE was not a punishment but finding the actual root cause of the poor performance in some schools in the district.
The minister for primary education Hon. Moris Kaduchu in response to this story condemned the act saying that it was intended to demoralize the teacher and cause disrespect of teacher among their students.
Minister Kaduchu added that Mr. Koome should sit the same exams instead of demoralizing the teachers and causing disrespect to these teachers.
Education minister for higher education Dr. John Muyingo warned on respect of teaching profession..
