Stop Scaring The Public-AIGP Katsigazi Warns Security Firms On Moving With Guns.
The acting Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Tumusiime Katsigazi has warned all private security companies that allow their guards to move with guns anyhow to stop the vice immediately saying that the situation is causing fear among the public.
Maj. Gen. Katsigazi who is on a tour to the Albertine Graben assessing the security situation, noted security gaps which must be fixed with immediate effect.
In 2022 police accused private security firms of superior and automatic weapons that can end up endangering the lives of the public noting many private security guards do not know how to handle them.
Automated rifles fire repeatedly as long as the shooter holds the trigger while semi-automated rifles fire only one piece of ammunition at each pull of the trigger.
Through the Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, guns that were seized by the police force’s Alert Squad Unit had been modified by the private security firms that hired or leased them.
“Most of the superior or automatic weapons have pellets and when recklessly fired, can endanger the lives of many innocent people including customers who could be wounded or even killed. High power weapons should not be in the hands of private security guards,” Enanga said.
However, owners of private security companies asked Uganda Police Force to adduce evidence of guns that have been modified from semi-automated to automated rifles.
