Tell Us The Criteria You Used To Apply Sanctions On Our Government Officials, Foreign Ministry Asks UK Government.
On 3oth April 2024, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon.Anita Annet Among ant two former Karamoja ministers Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu who are currently still on charges of mishandling iron sheets used for roofing and infrastructure from a Ugandan government-funded project aimed at housing some of the most vulnerable communities in the region, providing them to prominent politicians and their families instead.
However, the sanctions have sparked mixed reactions among government arms like the legislature and the executive where the Ministry of Internal affair has issued a statement indicating its intention to engage with the British High Commission in Uganda and the Government of the United Kingdom on this matter if the sovereignty remains a conditional principal in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs signed by Hon John Mugimba who is in charge of regional affairs stated that the two ministers on the charges of iron sheets remain under resumption of innocence until proven guilty.
