Tell Your Voters To Be Part Of Census- ED UBOS Urges MPs
The Executive Director of the National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Dr Chris Mukiza has urged Members of Parliament to tell their voters to be part of the Coming Census scheduled for May 9th.
The ED made his remarks while interacting with MPs during a breakfast meeting at Serena Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday.
"Many people always have issues when it comes to Census, they don't want to give us information," ED tells MPs. He adds that the masses always think that counting them and their assets may lead to heavy taxes.
Dr Mukiza revealed to MPs that preparations for the May digital Census are at 98% and the remaining 2% will be finished by the end of May. "Hon Members I want to assure you that 120000 tablets to be used in this Census are already here with us and we are installing software," he revealed. He added that they finished training trainers.
"These people will start training district supervisors, sub-county, and Enumerators who will take responsibility for counting the Population," he says. The Census Commissioner also assured MPs that Census results will be released in one month. "Take my word, the Census results will released in June," he says. He also informed MPs that people in diaspora will not be part of the Census.
He further told MPs that UBOS has so far conducted two National surveys the National Health Survey and the National Livestock Census.
While responding to questions raised by MPs about the tablets and where they will go after the Census, he assured them that two tablets would remain at the Parish to collect data for the Parish Development Model (PDM).
"We have talked to University Authorities and agreed to count students at their hostels, and another place of residence so need for them to close," he said. When it came to doubting the data released by UBOS he assured them Uganda has the best quality data in Africa. "We are ranked number 1 when it comes to good quality data.
Even South Africa come here to benchmark," he said adding UBOS dreams and walk quality statistics. All MPs thanked UBOS for the good work they have done when it comes to providing data and statistics.
They also agreed to mobilize their voters such that they can be counted.
