UPDF kill 5 ADF rebels, recovers 4 Guns in Ituri Province-DRC.

The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs has reported the killing of five suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in Katanga, Ituri province.

The soldiers also seized several sub-machine gun rifles, improvised explosive devices and communication equipment.

The deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs congratulated the soldiers for their successful mission. Rebel attacks had resumed in the area after a few weeks of calmness.

“Congratulations to Maj General Dick Olum the overall Commander Operation Shujja and your commanders of five battalions for the good work,” he said.

In December 2022, 17 suspected ADF rebels were killed, and 13 others were captured during an operation in Ntoroko District in western Uganda.

In November 2021, Uganda and DR Congo signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a joint military operation named Operation Shujaa against the ADF in the eastern part of the country following increased attacks in both countries.

The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs announced that in 2022, 424 ADF terrorists were killed, 81 were captured, 115 abductees were rescued, and 118 firearms with assorted ammunition and 10 improvised explosive devices were recovered.
