Uganda Police Force acquires advanced anti-riot equipment for public order operations.
The Uganda Police Force has acquired advanced anti-riot equipment, such as Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and Riot Control Vehicles (RCVs), which will aid them in carrying out public order operations.
During the handover ceremony, held at the police headquarters in Naguru, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Maj. General Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi received the equipment, which includes 15 APCs and 50 RCVs.
He emphasized the importance of proper maintenance of the equipment by line officers to ensure operational readiness.
The police Director of Engineering and Logistics, AIGP Richard Edyegu, who handed over the equipment, explained that the main objective of the procurement was to provide improved versions of the APC and RCV to the Field Force Police (FFP), which will enable them to handle current operational challenges effectively.
Additionally, the equipment will improve the operational capacity of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in the Karamoja sub-region, providing personnel with safer and quicker means of transport during patrols.
The new equipment will also replenish the old fleet in the Somalia operational base that supports the African Union force.
