Viral Wave of Influenza Circulating within the Population, Health Ministry says.

The Ministry of Health informs the general public of a wave of viral influenza circulating within the population. This is characterized by runny nose, headache, intermittent fevers, dry cough and general body weakness.

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services at the Ministry has revealed that the commonly affected age groups include; under 5 year old children, school going children and the elderly.

The trend is consistent with the seasonal influenza pattern that has two annual peaks coinciding with the rainy season. Season 1 is from February to June peaking in March and the second is August to November with the peak in September.

The Ministry appeals to all symptomatic people to seek clinical care from the nearest health facility. The public is encouraged to practice good hygiene, and avoid public gatherings if you have any symptoms. "If you must go out and are symptomatic, please wear a face mask at all times and avoid hugging or shaking hands," Dr Mwebesa said.

The Ministry of Health reiterates that there is no evidence of any COVID 19 resurgence in the country. However, individuals who are due for their COVID 19 booster dose are encouraged to do so.
