Police Foils Another Murder by Shooting

The Territorial Police at Wandegeya is currently investigating an attempted murder incident that occurred in the early hours of May 13, 2023. The incident, which involved a gunshot, took place along Jujju Road in the market zone of Wandegeya. The police were alerted to the incident at 0442 hours, and immediate action was taken to secure the area and begin the investigation.

According to reports, the nature of the incident was an attempted murder, with the use of a firearm. The incident was witnessed by a security guard, identified as Apuret Milton, employed by B-safe Security Company. While on duty, Milton observed a motorist causing an accident that resulted in damage to part of the shop window for TIPY NICE LTD SUPER MARKET. In an effort to prevent the driver from fleeing the scene, Milton discharged his firearm, inadvertently injuring a nearby individual, identified as Mwesigwa Geoffrey, who was inside his shop adjacent to the supermarket.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police found no sign of the victim , as Mwesigwa had already been evacuated and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Additionally, the alleged motor vehicle involved in the accident had been removed from the scene by the Traffic Police for further investigation. However, evidence of the incident was discovered, including a suspected bullet hole and damage to the victim's shop's wall and glass door.

The police have taken possession of the recovered rifle, bullets, and a cartridge, which were allegedly used by the suspect, and they are currently being held as exhibits for further investigation.

As a result of the incident, Apuret Milton, the security guard who discharged the firearm, is currently in police custody as the prime suspect in the case.

"The police will conduct a comprehensive inquiry to establish all the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served. Regular updates on the progress of the investigation will be provided as new developments arise," ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson said.
