Woman, who went missing a day before her wedding returns, reveals family forced her into unwanted marriage.
A 24-year-old woman named Bushira Najjuuko from Katereke Cell, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district, who had gone missing a day before her wedding on March 11, has returned and informed the police that she did not like the man her parents had chosen for her.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Najjuuko revealed that she was interested in another man, but her family did not approve of him.
She had disappeared to show her family that she was only interested in the man they did not want her to be with.
She had bought clothes and shoes with the money her family had given her and sent them home with a boda boda rider to show that she did not want the man. She was found at a friend's house in Zana and was handed over to her parents.
The police spokesperson warned parents not to force their children into marriages they do not want. “We appeal to parents not force their children into marriage that they don’t want.”
