The UPDF Deputy Chieftaincy of Personnel and Administration Brig Gen Godfrey Kawesa Kigozi has advised UPDF Generals who are set to retire from the Army in April participate in elective politics and challenge any leader including the President, Spyreports has learnt.
The Gen. Made the remarks while lecturing the officers who are set to retire from the Army at Gaddafi in Jinja.
According to information which we have obtained from the Chieftaincy of pension and Gratuity, the five Generals include Maj.General Fred Tolit, the former Defence Advisor of Uganda in South Africa, Brig.Gen Jessy Kamunanwire who serves under Uganda Police as Director Human Resource, Brig.Gen Eugene Ssebugwawo who serves as Coordinator of Disaster preparedness at the office of Prime Minister, Brig.Gen Emmanuel Rwashande who is UPDF Chief of Civil Military Cooperation and Brig.Gen Max Gumisiriza formally Commandant of Peace Support Center Dingo.
The documents further show that under Batch 13 B a total of 162 Officers retired from the Force and will include 5 Generals, 36 Colonels (Cols) 83 Lieutenant Colonels (Lt Cols) and 41 Majors (Majs).
The Deputy Chief of Personnel and Administration Brig.Gen Godfrey Kawesa Kigozi while lecturing the officers set to retire says, the officers should use their retirement savings according to their retirement plans. "Retirement is not rejection from the force but giving you a chance to engage in other economic activities in a civilian way," he says.
He further warns the officers to respect community Authorities like LCs. "You are now out of command and you must accept command from your community leaders," he warns. He also called upon those who are still strong to engage in politics and contest at any political level as long as they have voters support from their home areas.
Col Deborah Nayebare the Deputy Chief of Pension and Gratuity says Government waved off tax from their pension money.
The Commandant of NCOA Col Robert Rutayinama thanked the officers for reaching their mile stone in their UPDF career jounery and encouraged them to embrace retirement with positive emotions.
Mr William Enyimu the principal Human Resource at the Defence Ministry called upon the retiring officers to spend their money on accommodation, medical and transport.
"Invest your retirement money in cash flow and asset acquisition," he says.
