You Are To Blame For President Not Signing On The Budget; LOP Senyonyi Tells Speaker AMong Anita.

The Leader of Opposition Rt Hon Joel Ssenyonyi has accused Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among of rejecting the Legislators the Opposition had recommended to sit on the Budget Committee and instead insisted on having Hon Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo Mukungwe) and Dr.Abed Bwanika (Kimanya-Kabonera) as the root cause of the President’s refusal to sign the Appropriation Bill 2024 passed by Parliament on 16th may 2024.

Ssenyonyi says, the Speaker’s choice could probably explain why some Members of Parliament sitting on the Budget Committee have been arrested on charges of corruption.

 Ssenyonyi's remarks followed Parliament’s rejection of the proposal by National Unity Platform to drop Joyce Bagala (Mityana DWR) and Bwanika from the leadership of the Government Assurance Committee.

"I asked her (Speaker Among), why do you want to choose for us which MPs we should second to the Budget Committee? She said, that they are doing it administratively. Your authority doesn’t give you such powers, that power lies with us. She may not like the people we had selected, but it is us with powers to choose who we should recommend not you. Now, we are beginning to understand why she had interest in some individuals. Now you see what is happening in the budget Committee, some of its members are being arrested'' says Ssenyonyi.
