Uganda Population Is 45,993,5046 - UBOS Releases Preliminary Results.

Uganda National Buerea of Statistics (UBOS) Has today released Preliminary results from National Population and Housing Census 2024 to the president of Uganda and the general public that has indicated that Uganda now has a population of 45, 935, 046 people, from 34.6 million counted in 2014 representing an increase by 11.3 million in the last 10 years and it includes 780,061 refugees. 

UBOS Executive Director and the Census Commissioner Dr Chris Mukiza noted that the average household size is 4.4 persons down from 4.7 in the previous census with a growth rate of 2.9%.

51% of the total population are female. 50.5% are children between 0 - 17 years of age  22.7% of the population are youth( 18 - 30 years). The average household size is 4.4 persons down from 4.7 in the previous census with a growth rate of 2.9%.He said.

This was the 11th census in Uganda, 6th post independence census and the 1st digital census that happened from 10th may - 26th May 2024. 

''We had 135,230 field workers, 14,669 enumeration supervisors and 4715 subcounty/ division supervisors with 5 sets of questionnaires. Household, Institutions, Accommodation, floating and community questionnaires'' Said Dr Mukiza

Howevere UBOS Boss highlighted anumber of challenges faced during data collection processes including hard to reach areas, failure to access some households, refusals by some religious cults and deliberate refusals of households in gates, internal border conflicts like in Apaa, Ombechi, Nyamisingiri among others. There were unavailable respondents like single person households that leave early and come back late. Also the geography of some areas was not updated on the system.

After receiving the Preliminary results The President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni congulatulated Ugandans and urged them to get off completely the superstitious thinking of counting people that it would bring bad luck .

''The things you thought were witchcraft are now scientifically explained''. Said President Museveni

''We had problems with some groups wanting to control the population by castrating people. As NRM, we emphasized that the issue with large families is both medical and socio-economic, and we stand by our position. For those who don't understand our society, we are at a loss for what to do for you. You side with foreigners, believe their lies, and follow them as if you have no foundation of your own''. President Museveni.

The state minister for finance and planning Hon Amos Lugoloobi urged government to embraces the idea of digitalizing services to get real-time results because, from this digital census experience.
