Security Chiefs Spotted In Shs 20bn Robberies In Three Years-Police Report

A section of rich people, business persons, mobile money agents across the country are now living in total fear and panic after police revealed that over shs 20bn were robbed on gun point in the last three years, Spyreports has exclusively learnt.

According to our under cover investigations which we have conducted several high ranking security chiefs from different security agencies have been involved in these robberies.

"Top security chiefs plan robberies and use their escorts and their guns to finalise the deals and they always protect them in case they are arrested," Says a senior and high ranking Chief. He adds that most robberies on banks, mobile money agents and foreigners are always planned by top security chiefs.

According to the Annual Crime report that was released yesterday by the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola, the robbery cases in 2023 increased by 24% compared to 2022. The report shows over shs 7.29 bn were robbed from innocent Ugandans on gun point compared to shs 5.72 bn that was robbed in 2022.

"A total of 551cases of aggravated robbery of cash were reported to police in 2023 compared to 443 in 2022 giving an increase of 24%," reads part of the annual crime report.

The report further reveals that over 200 guns were used in conducting robberies. "All these guns that were used in robberies belong to top security chiefs and agencies  like Police, UPDF and security companies," says a security source adding that security personnels were highly involved.

"Most robberies on mobile money agents are conducted by army and police officers using their guns," Another top security source says. Last year, police officers planned and robbed over shs 2bn from NRM boss Hellen Nekesa at her home in Munyonyo and early this year police officers from Katwe also robbed a Kenyan investor over shs 100m and guns were used in these cases.

The General report says a total of 7772 robbery cases were report in 2023 compared to 6854 in 2022. The report adds that 3027 cases were aggravated in nature where guns were used while 4745 cases guns were not used.

The report further says Katwe police Division registered highest number of robberies in Uganda and was followed by Kira Division while Mbarara top in western Uganda with over 133 armed robberies.

Relatedly, over 50 cases robbery of motor vehicles were reported where over 200 motor vehicles were stolen. 122 were recovered while 79 were not recovered and according to our sources, some were sold in neighbouring Counties like Cong, and South Sudan while others were cut into spare parts and resold again.
