Police detectives have driven MPs Cissy Namujju, Yusuf Mutembuli and Paul Akamba to their homes on Entebbe Road, Mukono and Naalya respectively for a thorough house search as part of the investigations into the acts of corruption.

The lawmakers are suspected of coniving with officials from the Ministry of Finance to steal public funds.

“I have been hearing that from the Ministry of Finance, they collude with the accounting officers of ministries to come to Parliament working with some people there (Parliament) to provide certain funds, provided you take a share.I didn’t believe this but now I have proof,” said President Museveni on Thursday. The President said the corrupt syndicate should expect serious consequences.

Mutembuli serves as Parliament’s Legal Committee Vice chairperson, while Cissy Namujju is the Lwengo Woman MP. Akamba represents Busiki County in Parliament.

The MPs were on Monday evening transferred from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli, where they were interrogated for a full day, to Kira Division police for detention. Officials said the 3 detained MPs will appear before the Anti-Corruption court on Wednesday for trial.

“The Investigation has gone to the homes of the honorables (MPs) and our teams are already at their homes,” said a source, adding, “We expect more suspects to be invited to record statements.”

Two of the accused MPs are wanted over their roles in the Budget Committee of Parliament that they were previously members of. One of the legislators reportedly had some underhand dealings with some Kenyans during the processing of the Petroleum Supplies Amendment Bill in November 2023.

Another lawmaker is said to have collected huge sums of money from various government agencies while still serving as a member of the Budget committee.
