Fatal accident Claims Seven Adults, 2 juveniles on Masaka-Mbarara highway
Traffic police in Kinoni have registered a fatal accident that claimed nine lives on the Masaka-Mbarara highway.
The accident occurred at Kyoja Trading Centre on Thursday, April 7th, 2023, at approximately 4:00 PM.
The accident involved a Toyota Alphard with registration number UBL 314C and a fuel tanker with registration number SSD 327S/SSD 137Q.
According to Police spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima, the Alphard was traveling from Kampala to Mbarara while the fuel tanker was from Mbarara/Kinoni town.
“The driver of the Alphard was speeding and driving on the right side of the road, resulting in a head-on collision with the fuel tanker. Unfortunately, all nine passengers in the Alphard, including seven adults and two juveniles, died on the spot”, Nampiima said.
“The driver of the fuel tanker and his assistant sustained injuries and were rushed to Masaka referral hospital for treatment”, she added.
The police have launched investigations into the accident, and more details will be availed in due course.
The police have taken this opportunity to warn all motorists travelling to upcountry for Easter celebrations to exercise caution and avoid all forms of road indiscipline.
This includes speeding, phone driving, drink driving, and other road behaviours that can lead to accidents.
The accident has sent shockwaves across the country, with many expressing their condolences to the families of the deceased victims.
