Traffic Police Issues Guidelines on Road Safety Tips as Schools Open for Third Term
The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety has issued guidelines to motorists, pedestrians, students and parents as some schools have already re-opened for the third term this week, due to increased activities acompaned by increased traffic flow on different roads of the country, there are also increased traffic violations which can lead to road crashes.
The spokesperson of the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, SP Micheal Kananura says, "Due to increased traffic flow we urge all motorits to observe rules of the road, exercise maximum discipline, be patient to enable students and other pedestrians to cross."
All children below the age of 12 must be accomapined by elders on motorcycles, and motorcycles that carry more that two children are strongly warned by the traffic police as this breaks the law, and calls upon all parents to be responsible for the safety of their chidren as the travel to and from school. Children transportedon motor cycles must put on helmets.
Students need not to be left alone while using roads, parents, caretakers or teachers need to escort or acompany them especialy on busy roads and to the little ones.
Take taxes and boda bodas from recognised stages, use recognised motor vehicles for taxes with checked band to avoid conmen, do not board a tinted vehicle or strange vehicle except if you are known to them. Take note of the registration number of the tax or boda boda before you seat.
Drivers are strongly warned on carrying excess and interference to safe driving as this does not only contravene with the traffic laws but also interferes with safe driving.
All Pestrians including students Must Walk whilefacing the oncoming traffic, keep Right while moving on roads.
On matters of crossing the roads, SP Kananura advises road users; "Cross the roads at the zebra crossing, Check Left & Right before you cross. Do not run while crossing the roads. Know the traffic signs and signals. Don't play on roads and busy streets."
"Parents ensure that your children know your contacts and Emergency contacts for police," he added.
