General Court Martial Refuses To Release NUP Suspects Regardless Of MPs Standing Surety For Them
The general court-martial sitting in makindye today has declined to grant bail to 28 NUP suspect citing several reasons

Brig Gen. Mugabe the chairman general court-martial said in his ruling that,he found merit in the application and dismissed the application

However, the court has ordered an expeditious trial of the applicants in the main court.

The applicants had raised reasons for their bail application like having a constitutional right to apply for bail, having offenses that are bailable according to the constitution, and having substantial sureties.
Others have spent a long time on remand, that applicants shall not interfere in investigation and will not abscond.
NUP supporters have been on remand for three years and one of them, Muhysdin Kakooza  turned rowdy. He was subjected to a beating by soldiers deployed in the courtroom and carried to a waiting miltary van back to Luzira prison.

Former leader of opposition Hon. Mathias Mpuuga revealed that he received a letter from the regime's Attorney General particularly in regard to parliament's resolution on the trial of civilians in the Court Martial, and those in detention without trial.

He added that the Attorney General made a commitment that he's going to work with the other Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) to handle the matter in line with the resolution of the House to the effect that those who have been in detention without trial be either bailed or freed because the state has failed to prosecute them.

Earlier this month, Leader of Opposition Rot Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi has retabled the list of NUP supporters still in jail for now three years .

Deputy speaker Right Honourable Thomas Tayebwa said that parliament has been grappling with this issue of the NUP supporters and if there is any way of having them free should be used.

He has on the same way ordered the clerk to parliament to avail a copy of the list to Hon. Balaam for the assistance he promised yesterday immediately after taking his oath as an Ex official in Parliament.
