"I Intend To Stand Again As Mityana District Woman MP" Minister Nabakooba Declared

The minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon Judith Nalule Nabakooba has officially announced her intention to contest for the Mityana District Woman MP seat in the upcoming elections 2026.

Minister Nabakooba revealed that she is confident that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) will re-entrust her with the party flag basing on her continued support from the people of Mityana district.

The seat is currently held by Joyce Bagala of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

“I intend to stand again as Mityana District Woman MP. Even without being an MP, I have delivered results,” Nabakooba stated. She claimed that many residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the current representation and are urging her to return.

“People keep reaching out to me, saying, ‘Madam, come back. We are regretting.’ They compare and see the difference,” she added, emphasizing her commitment to working with the community to “regain Mityana’s glory” and enhance service delivery.

The incumbent MP Hon Joyce Bagala, who defeated Nabakooba in the 2021 elections by a margin of 16,000 votes, retained her seat after a legal battle.

Nabakooba had filed a petition challenging the election results, citing irregularities, voter intimidation, and bribery. She accused the Electoral Commission of failing to ensure a free and fair election and alleged that agents of her opponent allowed unregistered individuals to vote and engaged in multiple voting.

On October 2, 2021, the Mubende High Court nullified Bagala’s election, ordering a fresh poll. Justice Emmanuel Baguma ruled in favor of Nabakooba, finding that her claims were substantiated.

This did not go well with Bagala and she appealed the decision, and the Court of Appeal reinstated her as the duly elected Woman MP for Mityana District.

The appellate court, through justices Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Stephen Musota, and Christopher Gashirabake, overturned the High Court’s ruling in 2021, allowing Bagala to retain her seat.
